What does NOAA SPC storm reports return?
Documented fields (from the SPC report page tables; CSV header not read directly because spc.noaa.gov blocked the request): Time; Size (hail, in hundredths of an inch, 175 means 1.75 inches) or Speed (wind, mph) or F_Scale (tornado); Location; County; State; Lat; Lon; Comments (includes the issuing NWS office ID). Times are UTC and each report day runs 1200 UTC to 1159 UTC the next day.
What can you derive from it?
1. Next-morning hail hit list: hail reports at 1 inch or above from the last 24 hours, with lat and lon, for same-week canvassing. 2. Wind damage cluster: dense wind reports around a metro flag tree, roof and fence damage before insurers publish claims. 3. Tornado touchdown: any tornado report near a portco branch is an immediate crew and marketing alert. 4. Storm day severity: count of reports per state per day gives a simple daily demand index for restoration firms. 5. Comment text: notes such as 'trees down on house' or 'power lines down' mark damage type.
How would a GTM team use it?
1. Revenue trigger: run a 6am job that pulls yesterday's filtered hail CSV and pushes affected ZIP codes to a roofing portco's ad and door-knock teams. 2. Monitoring: alert a restoration roll-up's leadership when any portfolio branch county logs tornado or 2 inch hail reports. 3. Content demo: a LinkedIn post mapping one day's reports against the HQs of storm-chasing roofers. 4. Diligence: compare a target's lead volume on report days with quiet days to test how storm-dependent it is. 5. Lead lists: pair report coordinates with property data to list commercial roofs within a few miles of large hail.
What are the caveats?
Not a native Clay integration as of 2026-10-17 (checked against Clay's integrations catalog). Can be called through Clay's HTTP API column where an API exists. SPC states that all reports are preliminary; the reviewed record lands later in the NCEI Storm Events Database. Filtered files drop near-duplicate reports; raw files keep everything. Reports are points where someone saw hail or damage, not a swath, and coordinates are rounded to two decimals. Requests from this VPS were blocked (HTTP 403), so automated pulls may need a different network or the NOAA mirror hosts.
