Free satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat): what it returns, and whether it works in Clay

Free satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat) is not available in Clay. It is best for Content demo, Diligence. Pricing: Free. Access: Data is free: Copernicus Sentinel data under the Copernicus terms, Landsat in the public domain with USGS credit requested. Earth Engine is free for noncommercial research and nonprofit use; commercial use is billed through Google Cloud: Basic $500 per month (100 batch EECU-hours and 33 online included), Professional $2,000 per month, Premium custom, plus compute at $0.40 per EECU-hour list with tiered discounts and storage per GiB (pricing page, October 2026)..

What does Free satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat) return?

Official fields: Sentinel-2 bands B1 aerosols (60 m); B2 blue, B3 green, B4 red, B8 NIR (10 m); B5, B6, B7, B8A red edge (20 m); B9 water vapour (60 m); B11, B12 SWIR (20 m); AOT; WVP; SCL scene classification; TCI_R, TCI_G, TCI_B true colour; MSK_CLDPRB cloud probability; MSK_SNWPRB; QA60 cloud mask; MSK_CLASSI_OPAQUE, MSK_CLASSI_CIRRUS, MSK_CLASSI_SNOW_ICE. Landsat 9 C2 L2 bands SR_B1 to SR_B7 surface reflectance (30 m); ST_B10 surface temperature (Kelvin); QA_PIXEL (fill, cloud, shadow, snow, water flags); QA_RADSAT; SR_QA_AEROSOL; ST_ATRAN, ST_CDIST, ST_DRAD, ST_EMIS, ST_EMSD, ST_QA, ST_TRAD, ST_URAD; PROCESSING_LEVEL.

What can you derive from it?

1. Built-up change at 10 m: new warehouses, lots and pads appear as reflectance change between dates. 2. Vegetation health: NDVI from B4 and B8 for agricultural or forestry exposure. 3. Water and flood extent: NDWI or SCL water class against a site list. 4. Industrial heat: Landsat ST_B10 anomalies at plants as an activity proxy. 5. Mining and quarry footprint growth over years.

How would a GTM team use it?

1. TAM build: classify large new industrial roofs in a state over the last 24 months and match them to companies for a facilities-services client. 2. PE screen: compute NDVI trend over a target's farmland or timber holdings. 3. Diligence: check that a claimed plant expansion exists in the Sentinel-2 record with dates. 4. Market map: map solar farms, quarries or ports in a region as an account list.

What are the caveats?

Not a native Clay integration as of 2026-10-17 (checked against Clay's integrations catalog). Can be called through Clay's HTTP API column where an API exists. 10 to 30 m resolution cannot count vehicles or see small changes; it shows large footprint change and land cover. Cloud cover and 5 to 16 day revisit leave gaps; QA60 was masked out from 2022-01-25 to 2024-02-28. Satellite shows change, not cause or revenue. Commercial use of Earth Engine needs a paid plan; downloading the raw data elsewhere stays free.
